I have lived in the central Florida area since 1974, where I have been an award winning pottery artist for over 25 years. For 12 years I have also helped students discover their creative side as an instructor in pottery at The Crealde School of Art in Winter Park, Florida.
As an artist I work to develop a style that is distinctive and unique to me. Today I work with polymer clay and metal leaf and produce modern abstract jewelry.
I currently use an adaptation of a technique called Mokume Gane. Originating in 17th century Japan, it is the stacking of mixed metals to create a laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Using polymer clay with metal leaf in this way creates exciting visual effects. I usually create a design and then bring it to life. But when using this technique, the images in the sheets of clay tell me what they want to become.
My designs embody the union of the subtle, organic waves of Mokume Gane within geometric shapes and compositions.
My goal is that my jewelry brings as much joy to others as they do to me.
